The Last Weekend: School-teacher Ian speaks direct to the audience to recount his and his wife Em's summer holiday at a country cottage with his old college friend Ollie,now a high-flying lawyer,and Ollie's wife Daisy,formerly Ian's girlfriend. Though far wealthier than Ian Ollie is compulsively competitive and insists on macho contests for money though Ian is stunned when his friend tells him that he has an incurable brain tumour and months to live. He is even more astonished that Ollie has apparently not told Daisy though her flirtatious behaviour with both Ian after a night at a restaurant and her artist client Milo cause Ian and Em to wonder if she has found out.
