FGM is a non-religious procedure where a girl?s genitals are either partially or totally removed for non-medical reasons and is most commonly practiced in some African and Asian communities, the various forms of FGM and the consequences, both medical and psychological facing females who have undergone the procedure (usually during their childhood) are explored in the documentary. Leyla Hussein, an Anti-FGM campaigner and co-founder of the Daughters of Eve project, who herself was subjected to FGM explores the cultural and societal pressures which lead to FGM and discusses what must be done by the Government to end this horrific form of child abuse.
