The Ghost Writer (20

$Watch The Ghost Writer Vumoo-Polanski is a master of subtlety, grace, and wit. His eye creates breathtaking and beautiful shots. His ear adds a malevolent and demented humor to the score of a film. There is most always something unspeakable, indescribable beneath the surface of a Polanski film. Something unnerving about the tone but never overbearing, or pounding the audience over the head with it. This is certainly true of The Ghost Writer. What I found surprising, not being familiar with the novel on which it is based, was the political statement being made. Humorously portraying certain key figures in the political environment of the last decade. In any other hands, this could never have been done so believably and deftly. All the key performances are on target. And how could they not be. For Polanski knows how to work with actors and guide them in creating such memorable characters. Ewan McGregor certainly fits his role seamlessly as does Olivia Williams. So many could learn from Polanski how a thriller needs to be constructed in order to hold an audience to the very end. The word entertainment means to \'hold in between\' which is what The Ghost Writer does from beginning to its haunting and inevitable conclusion.$

Nanny McPhee Returns

$Watch Nanny McPhee Returns Vumoo-Overall, this sequel is almost over the top and as usual for sequel, seemingly more dramatic, more spectacular, more impossible, and yet Emma Thompson\'s script is in some ways even more compelling and more emotively intimate and powerful. The early scenes of various contraptions seems to take away the charm and seemingly gimmicky and yet Emma\'s screenplay ties them together. The scene of London seems also to be overly fantastical and yet Emma\'s writing never seems to definitely cross the boundaries of acceptability and fantasy. This sequel is even more touching and powerful in its presentation of children and their issues, especially the the spoil boy and his father in one of the most carefully refined and strongest scenes. Maggie Gyllenhaal does a nice job in a character that doesn\'t reflect her general starlet persona. While there are the usual stereotypical antics there seems to be an added flair to most. Overall while this movie is slightly a mixed bag, its presentation, its message, and the characters of the kids are both obnoxiously overly dramatic and yet again at the same time there\'s some underlying restraint and dignified at the same making this sequel an improvement on the first in many places. An intelligent and highly above average movie for children.$

Despicable Me (2010)

$Watch Despicable Me Vumoo-Despicable Me, the new animated from produced by Chris Melandandri, who also produced Ice Age: The Meltdown and Horton Hears A Who, is one of the summer\'s stand out movies. Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Miranda Cosgrove, and Russell Brand are perfect actors to lead this at times hilarious, at times tear jerking animated tale. Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, Danny R. McBride, Julie Andrews and Jermain Clement make for a worthy supporting cast. Gru (voiced by Carell) is a evil genius who only wants to win the affection of his cold-hearted mother (voiced by Andrews), something he has NEVER had. His only friends are Dr. Nefario, a aging scientist (voiced by Brand), and his army of minions (voiced by directors Peiere Coffin and Chris Reneud, and Jermain Clement), Twinky like creatures with both one and two eyes, it varies. When a mysterious newcomer named Vector (voiced by Segal) steals the Great Pyrimid of Giza, Gru decides to pull off the greatest heist EVER: stealing the moon! Then, three orphan girls, Margo (voiced by Cosgrove), Edith, and Agnes (both voiced by newcomers who names I don\'t know.) The three of them don\'t hit it off with Gru instantly, but they see him as the first real parent they\'ve ever had. Gru slowly begins to warm up to the girls, and they\'re interactions make for some truly heartfelt, and also hilarious moments. Case in point: Edith: Are these beds old bombs? Gru: Yes. But, they are very old and highly unlikely to blow up. Try not to toss and turn. Despicable Me pulls off something almost unheard of: a film that is enjoyable for both parents and children that does NOT involve humor centered around bodily functions, or violence. Final grade: A Plus infinite number of times!$

Predators (2010)

$Watch Predators Vumoo-At last, a credible sequel to Predator, the 1987 movie. Unlike most sequels, this movie does justice to the original. In some respects it even surpasses the original, which is saying a lot as the original was a great movie. Adrien Brody is outstanding as a self-styled leader of a group of people literally thrown together to battle forces unknown to them but known to the audience. What makes the story particularly intense is wondering if they will figure out a way to escape. The movie features strong acting, an action-packed story, snappy dialog, good character development and a surprisingly intense performance by Topher Grace. Unlike the previous sequels in this series, this movie maintains its artistic integrity, meaning that it avoids becoming campy or a shameless spin off of the original. This movie is proof that when it wants to, Hollywood can produce a credible sequel without making it seem like a phony, last-minute second-rate job, which means there\'s still hope.$

$Watch The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Vumoo-Absolutely Amazing! It was breathtaking and enchanting how extremely well all the characters from the Twilight Saga was brought to life in Eclipse. I am very impressed with David Slade\'s vision of the movie and how well he managed to tie everything together. When you leave the Theatre you know that David Slade is a director who really did understand the book. Thank you David for making this Twilight experience exceptional. I don\'t care what critics say - the acting was better than great. Kristen does an amazing job when she portrays Bella\'s confusion as she is second-guessing her choice to become a vampire. It is brilliant how Kristen manages to communicate the confusion through great acting – without countless monologues or dialogues to explain her emotions. That\'s what I call acting! Taylor Lautner was also great. His character could easily have been tiresome after New Moon but he managed to keep Jacob interesting. Last but not least – Robert. There aren\'t enough words to explain how perfect his portrayal of Edward in this movie is. He brings the character to life in such an astonishing fashion that he is worthy of all praise. Thank you Robert for that breathtaking experience! But it wasn\'t only the main characters that made this movie great – everyone in the cast should get their fare share of admiration. The Cullens where fantastic – I loved the fact that they where so three-dimensional. The acting and storyline made you fall in love with the whole Cullen clan - just as one does when reading the books. Eclipse is a stunning cinematic experience and a Hollywood Epic!$

The A-Team (2010)

One of the many mottoes Colonel John Hannibal Smith throws around whilst hatching his brilliant plans, dispensing them like his insightful wisdom increases the chances of success. A motto director Joe Carnahan has taken to heart in making The A-Team. A smart move, as complete and uncompromising exaggeration appears to be exactly what the format asked for. Especially since the translation of TV shows to the big screen has proved to be no easy task. Just look at Miami Vice, which pretty much bombed despite the presence of Michael Mann, the director/producer who created the original series. Or the near criminal trashing überhobbyist MacGuyver recently received by the hands of questionable farce MacGruber. In a world so significantly different from the mid-eighties, the severely underpaid and hopelessly dated missions of the four fugitives could have very much been out of place as well. The reincarnation by the hands of Carnahan however, avoids many of the pitfalls that the outdated format has to offer. For one, the director has brought the well known premise of the series to the present. Vietnam has been replaced by Iraq and the bad attitude of Bosco Baracus is not the only thing that makes the foursome dangerous: the happy-go-lucky stance of a team that rarely asked for enemy casualties has been replaced by an attitude that better suits a group of elite soldiers. What is especially striking is how well the cast handle their roles, and how much fun they have doing so. Understandable, since the characters in Carnahans installment have been blown up as well. Hannibal in the hands of Liam Neeson, although not as charismatic as George Peppard, is equally complacently on the jazz whenever a dangerous situation can be even remotely relished. Templeton \$
